A flashing amber means the Mimio Device is looking to connect to any USB hub, it recognizes that there is a hub available to communicate to. If using Windows open MimioStudio go to Tools > Settings > Classroom Devices. If using Mac, go to the Apple header and select Notebook > Preferences > Classroom Devices to make sure that MimioTeach or Vote is connected. If it is not connected (might show available) then highlight the MimioTeach and click Connect. If you are successful re-pairing the Mimio wireless components, the power/status LED on the Mimio devices should turn to solid green. This initiates the paring process.A flashing green means that the USB hub is plugged in and recognizes the Mimio teach or vote because it was connected to it before but mimiosys.exe has been terminated and once MimioStudio is open you will get a solid green.

  • Verify Mimio Studio 8 or above is installed.
  • Verify the wireless USB receiver is connected to your PC's USB port.

MimioStudio 11 will no longer support the automatic playback of any multimedia file. MimioStudio 11 will use the CODECS from multimedia programs that are already installed on the user’s computer. For example, for Windows users with Windows Media Player, MimioStudio will automatically play a WMV file inside Notebook. Similarly, MimioStudio will automatically play MOV files for Mac users with the default QuickTime program installed. Linux does have a default media player for MimioStudio to leverage. Users will be alerted by a pop-up dialog box when playback is not possible.  In order to play various file types, you will need to search for and download the proper codecs.
Click here to download the appropriate CODEC pack for your (windows) system.
Click here to down VLC system to run most video/audio formats for your (mac) system.
  • Complete an Environmental Test. Click here for instructions.
  • Touch a Mimio stylus pen about an inch in front of the top ultrasound sensor on the mimio device (this looks like a small silver circle on side of Mimio device). When touching down the pen, verify if the pen indicator LED on the Mimio device turns green.
  • Do the same for the bottom ultrasound sensor.
  • If the pen indicator LED on the Mimio device does not turn green when each test is performed, there is a dead ultrasound sensor which requires warranty service.  NOTE: a dead or weak ultrasound sensor can only detect a stylus pen when positioned directly in front of it.
  • Contact Mimio Technical Support for warranty service instructions.
NOTE: if available, always verify another mimio device works in place of original device.

If a vote handset shows EE with other characters (click here for an example), this means the handset's ID has been assigned to a different handset.  This is normal. To correct the display, place the handset in the MimioVote tray and the correct ID will be assigned to the handset.
If a vote handset shows EE with no other symbols (
click here for an example), it means
  • The handset was removed during a firmware update.  Replace the handset to the MimioVote tray and the message will be cleared.
  • The handset is incapable of successfully installing a firmware update.  When this failure occurs, the handset will attempt to download firmware every time it is placed in the station.  However, it will always display EE when removed from the station, even when the firmware download has been allowed to complete. This will indicate the handset will need to be replaced by Technical Support. Click here to contact Technical Support for a replacement handset.
I'm installing the Mimio software using the CD that came with the product. It is asking me for a registration/serial number, but it won't accept the one that came with my Mimio. What do I do? Download the latest version of the MimioStudio.  The latest version of MimioStudio does not require a serial number to install or activate the software. All that is required is a Mimio device connection to your computer to activate the MimioStudio software. A serial number is only required to activate MimioStudio in absence of a Mimio device.
To activate MimioStudio and MimioMobile after receiving an activation code then follow the steps below.

Users can use MimioStudio to import both SMART and Promethean files. Mimio is able to support many of the common aspects of these file types, allowing teachers to open, view, and edit. Many SMART or Promethean files have unique programming which does not allow full compatibility for all interactive aspects, including certain background types and some flash animations. Mimio will continue to research and address compatibility issues with each new release of MimioStudio.
You can import students from a Unicode text file (TXT) or a Comma separated value file (CSV). Each student must have at least a first or last name assigned to them in order to be imported. Whether or not we use all the columns the header must contain all the fields. The following fields are supported for importing into Gradebook

  • StudentID
  • FirstName
  • MiddleName
  • LastName

To import a class list
  • In Gradebook, display the class you want to import the student list into.
  • From the File menu, choose Import, and then choose Students. The Open dialog box appears.
  • Navigate to and select the file you want to import, and then click Open. The list of students is imported and displayed in the Gradebook.
MimioStudio 10 will work with the iPad (2nd Generation or later) and iPad Mini. Mimio does not currently support Google-Android, Windows OS, or BlackBerry-OS tablets.  MimioStudio responds to standard Mac/Windows mouse control. Mimio does offer a tablet that works which is the MimioPad. Please click here for more information on the MimioPad.
1. Connect a Mimio device to the computer (via cable or wireless connection).
2. If applicable, turn the projector off.
3. Open the Mimio Notebook application.
4. Click File and select Connect. If prompted to disconnect from Interactive mode, select Yes. Once completed an image of the Mimio bar/board should appear on the blank Notebook page (usually on the left). A status message will also appear on the lower left section of the Mimio Notebook page identifying you that you are connected to a mimio device. Remember to only use the STYLUS INK CAPTURE PENS with the EXPO dry-erase markers in Capture Mode. Use of the Mimio Mouse Interactive Stylus Pen will revert back to Interactive Mode.
5. Make sure all sensors on the mimio device have a clear line of sight to the writing surface and pens A) The infrared sensor (IR) is the black semi-circle protruding from the side of the bar. B) Two ultrasound sensors (US) are on the side of the mimio device at the top and bottom of the bar. They are small silver circles. C) Make sure nothing is blocking these three sensors.
6. Make sure the mimio device is facing the proper direction. A) The mimio bar should have the infrared and ultrasound sensors facing towards the and should surface, i.e. these sensors should point towards the large portion of the board have a clear line of sight of a mimio stylus pen when in use.

We have figured out that there is an issue with the audio of the recorder causing this issue.

There are two options that will fix this…

#1: Plug in a microphone

#2: Go into MimioStudio Settings > Recorder > Audio Quality > Change to "No Audio"
The MimioTeach system is used with a projector, which allows you to project your entire laptop screen on the whiteboard. You can deliver and interact with lessons and presentations directly from your PC. The MimioCapture system is a MimioTeach accessory that allows you to capture dry erase notes or drawings directly from the whiteboard, for storage on your PC in MimioStudio Notebook. A projector is not used with the MimioCapture system.
This issue is fixed with MimioStudio 11  Click here to download the latest version from the Mimio.com website.
This is happening on a Windows 7 32-bit machine.
Please make sure that the DPI is not higher than 100%.

To get to the DPI settings, right click anywhere in the desktop screen, select Screen Resolution and then Display Settings.
The USB specification limits the length of a cable run to 5 meters (16.4 feet) for USB 2.0 hi-speed applications or 3 meters (9.9 feet) for USB 1.1 low speed devices. Essentially, this means that you are unable to “daisy-chain” several USB extensions cables together and run them more than 5 meters.  The MimioProjector uses USB 1.1
Mimio tested the MimioProjector using the included mini USB cable and a cable which is a USB
1.1 Extender over CAT5E or CAT6 Connection up to 150ft. This is what we recommend to purchase to extend the connection between the computer and MimioProjector. These cables can be purchased from ITC.
The Lessons folder from the Gallery has been removed from MimioStudio 10.1. Please visit our interactive teaching community, MimioConnect (mimioconnect.com) to download complete lessons that are aligned to standards and span across core subjects. This impacts MimioStudio users who have done a fresh installation of MimioStudio 10.1.  Users will continue to have the Lesson folder in their default Gallery if they did an upgrade. If you are looking for the lessons found in the Gallery from a previous MimioStudio version, please click here to download the Lessons mcf file and then import this to your Gallery.
No separate driver is required. The MimioView camera supports UVC, an industry standard that is natively supported by Windows.
  • Check the batteries.  Push down on the tip of the pen and you should hear a buzzing sound.  If there is no sound, then replace the batteries.
  • Make sure EXPO brand dry-erase markers are being used. The mimio stylus pens are designed for EXPO markers.  The EXPO marker should have some wiggle room in the tube.  If the dry-erase marker is too tight, there may be internal wires in the stylus pen tube interfering with the marker.
  • Disassemble the stylus pen and remove the EXPO dry-erase marker or gray mimio Mouse insert piece.Look down barrel and see if any of the 3 wires are protruding.  If a wire is sticking out, then use a regular ball point pen or the back end of a pencil to smooth out the wires.  Re-insert the dry-erase marker or mimio mouse insert and try again (make sure an EXPO brand dry-erase marker is being used).
  • If no wires are protruding, the batteries are new, the pen buzzes but is still not detected by the mimio, then check for a failed ultrasound sensor and/or run an environmental test.
The amber LED indicates that the MimioTeach stylus or the MimioCapture pens and eraser needs to be charged. We recommend charging the stylus overnight before using it for the first time and when not in use for maximum performance. Please note that when the MimioTeach is running off of battery power, the stylus will not charge. Please plug the MimioTeach bar or the MimioCapture Tray directly into the computer with the USB cable or use the provided USB adapter to plug into the wall and the units will charge. Official testing has shown that on a single charge, the stylus batteries will last approximately 11 continuous hours. This means 11 straight hours of the tip being depressed. After a minute of the tip being depressed, there is an automatic shutoff, so the signal will stop being transmitted. Most use cases of the stylus show that it is used at very short intervals (in the length of seconds). Therefore, the actual use time it would take for the battery to deplete entirely is pushed to the hundreds of hours. Effectively, the stylus battery power should never fully deplete, but if it does, a five minute charge will last about 30 minutes of use.. The styli and eraser will recharge completely in their tray in about three hours.
While in the calibration screen hit the "enter" key, the calibration screen will toggle between monitors so you can calibrate the extended desktop and have all the MimioStudio Tools functionality.  You can also change the active monitor usually monitor #1 to the extended desktop monitor.
Note:  If using the MimioPad this only works on the primary monitor. Click here for info on MimioPad on Extended Desktop
Click here if you run into problems changing the primary monitor.
  • Ensure the stylus pen is not sticking, i.e. that it does not still buzz when lifted off the writing surface.
  • If available, try using the stylus pen with a different Mimio device to verify if the problem follows the pen or goes away when a new Mimio device is used.
  • If the problem follows the pen, a warranty RMA is required to replace the stylus pen.
  • If the problem is unique to a specific Mimio device, a warranty RMA is required to repair the Mimio device.
Two buttons on the stylus activate functions: Hover/Right Click and MimioStudio Tools. For left mouse click, touch the projected area with the tip of the stylus twice.
The expected length of time per charge is approximately 200 hours. Official testing has shown that on a single charge, the MimioTeach stylus battery will last approximately 11 continuous hours. This means 11 straight hours of the tip being depressed. There are two things that will ensure the life of the battery is one of the longest on the market: 1. The MimioTeach system has a built-in docking and recharging station for the stylus, so its “home” will always provide a recharge. 2. Most use cases of the stylus show that it is used only 5% to 10% of class time. Therefore, the actual use time it would take for the battery to deplete entirely is close to 200 hours. Effectively, the stylus should never fully deplete, but if it does, simply charge it for five minutes to get 30 minutes of use. The stylus will fully charge in 3 hours. When the stylus needs charging an amber LED will display. We recommend charging the stylus overnight before using it for the first time and when not in use for maximum performance.
The MimioMobile iPad application can connect to MimioStudio 10 or later using a schools internal Wi-Fi network, allowing students to contribute to the learning environment.  There are several requirements to ensure reliable connectivity between the application and MimioStudio.
System Requirements:
1. MimioStudio should be running at least version 10.0 or later.
2. The MimioMobile application needs to be activated with the activation number issued during purchase.
3. The MimioMobile application is supported on the iPad2 or later, including the iPad mini.
Connectivity Requirements:
1. The iPad and the PC that hosts the MimioStudio software should have IP connectivity between them. This could be either the same Local Area Network, or connected networks that have unrestricted access between them.
2. In the event of a firewall being located between the MimioMobile clients and the MimioStudio network, please ensure the firewall allows connectivity between the two networks on the port configured in the MimioStudio Mobile settings.
3. If the system that hosts the MimioStudio application has a software firewall configured, confirm it allows communication between the two networks on the configured port as well.
Troubleshooting Connectivity:
1. Download Fing (available for free on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Linux) a. Fings is a port scanner which can detect whether the mobile device is on the same network as the computer running MimioStudio.
2. Open up the settings (the icon is a gear).
3. Edit Services->Add Service. a. Port: 59710 (or the port shown under the Mobile Preferences tab in the MimioStudio Settings). b. Name: MimioMobile service.
4. Click on the icon which contains the pen (custom host button). Type the IP address of the computer which is running MimioStudio a. Windows: Open the command prompt (cmd or command): ipconfig /all. Wireless LAN adapter IP Address (should be in the form of 10.xxx.xxx.xxx) b. Mac: Open the terminal. Type Ifconfig. Look for en1 (wireless address) and look at the value for inet (should be in the form of 10.xxx.xxx.xxx).
5. Click scan and see if Fing detects that the Mobile device can see the computer running MimioStudio (it should show the mimio service is running).
Note: The default port used for communication between MimioStudio and the MimioMobile clients is TCP:59710 (this is configurable in the MimioStudio software under MimioStudio-> Tools -> Settings->Mobile-> Configure) There are no problem communicating between different subnets. The MimioMobile App sends and receives using the same port.
Mimio Xi can be attached to the whiteboard in two ways: Temporary suction cup attachment: When using mimio Xi on a board in a location where it will not remain for more than a day, the Xi capture bar can be attached using the suction cups. When attaching Xi using suction cups, make sure the board and suction cups are clean (wipe with tissue – clean the suction cups only with water or alcohol – NEVER use solvent cleaners on the suction cups). When cleaning the upper left hand corner of the board, also make sure there are no scratches or surface irregularities that would prevent a secure attachment. NOTE: After attaching Xi with suction cups, make sure that both the top and bottom sets of cups have fastened properly by applying some lateral force left, right, up and down parallel to the board surface. If the suction cups loosen when doing this, re-clean and re-attach. Long-term attachment using mounting brackets: If your Xi will be used frequently on a particular board or if you wish to use Xi on any board for an extended period of time (days or more), it is highly recommended to use the mounting brackets, of which one pair is supplied with your Xi. The mounting brackets can be attached by clipping them onto the Xi bar and then removing the protective slip over the 3M “Command” adhesive strips. Press the bar with the clips onto the upper left corner of the whiteboard in vertical orientation for landscape oriented boards or horizontally for portrait oriented boards. The clips will remain in place but the bar can be easily clipped in and out of the brackets and will remain precisely positioned as long as desired. This fixed positioning can be particularly useful when your Xi is used with the mimioMouse interactive whiteboard feature and a fixed position projector since it permits calibration to be retained and eliminates the need for recalibration each time mimio Xi is used.
